Happy New Year

New Year's Day carrots and spinach

We have just sent out the invitation to join us for the 2011 CSA season.  Please click on the CSA tab above to see how to add your name to our mailing list, update existing information  and to sign up for the CSA.

Missouri weather is always unpredictable and this winter has already proven to be no exception.  The 60 degree plus day on New Year’s Day allowed us in the garden to weed and harvest a spinach bed that is protected by a plastic tunnel, and to cultivate another bed for more spinach.  Now we are expecting 3-5 inches of snow!

Just after the last snowfall I peeked in on some carrots that are being stored in the soil for the winter.  If you have never tasted a carrot that has been fall planted and stored in frosty soil you have missed how crunchy and delicious a carrot can be.  One of the new things we are thinking about adding to our list of services is a short pre-season which would consist mostly of greens, green onions, green garlic and the like and a short post season.  The post season would allow some of you to experience the crazy good flavors that freezing temperatures impart to vegetables that can handle the cold (carrots, spinach, broccoli, leeks etc.).

We are ordering seed, repairing tools, getting the greenhouse ready and generally getting excited to be your farmers this season.

Happy 2011
