This Week’s Box 9-9-10

This week’s box will contain:

  • Butternut Squash
  • Summer Squash
  • Green Beans
  • Herbs- Basil and  Rosemary
  • Lemon Cukes
  • Peppers- Sweet and Hot (the hot ones are in a white bag marked HOT)
  • Garlic
  • Tomatoes- a salad tomato called Tommy Toe
  • Okra
  • Cheese-those who did not get cheese two weeks ago will get it this week

A word about hot peppers or chiles:  The way we use them most often is roasted, peeled and chopped and added to everything from quesadillas to chili to casseroles.  The long green chile is called Anaheim and the little colored chile is Santa Fe Grande.  The Anaheim is only slightly hot and the Santa Fe Grande is similar to a jalapeno.

The hens are busy making new feathers for the winter (molting) instead of making eggs for us, so we won’t be providing eggs for at least a few weeks.  The next planting of radishes, spinach, lettuce, arugula, turnips and mustard are coming along nicely, but the extreme heat of July precluded getting these crops started earlier, so there may be a hole in production coming up.  If that is the case we will need to take a couple of weeks off and continue the season after the brief hiatus.  I am having knee surgery October 8th, which was to be after the season ended.  This might complicate things considering the hiatus.  I will keep you all posted as what the remainder of the season will look like.

Thank You,
